0003090: White box appears above all windows, pinwheel of death, DF locks up

Description

No idea what was supposed to be in the box. Siege? forgotten beast? artifact? noble showing up?

As soon as the box would show up, processor load dropped off, and game hung.

Steps To Reproduce

No idea WHAT causes it exactly, but with one save, waited few minutes.... screen notification pops up in empty white window, game locked up. Terminal window spews out information.

Crashed several times.

Eventually got past bad spot.

(0012284) vladthebad (reporter) 2010-08-31 07:40	Don't think it has anything to do with the elves. I'm pretty sure it has to do with sieges, or possibly ANY blank the screen/prompt. In one spot, I had saved it about 15 seconds before it happened.... so I opened a dozen copies of DF, loaded the save on all copies... all but two copies crashed within a second or two of eachother, the two that didn't, A vile force of darkness has arrived.

When using normal raws the game loads but graphics aren't loaded properly because IronHand raws aren't being used. When making a new world / game I get working graphics, but even using those raws my save does not work. Save was originally made with vanilla DF If I only use the graphics folder in raw it doesn't crash on load - problem is in objects

(0024109) foop (reporter) 2013-09-11 08:11	I've had this before on OS X, and it doesn't seem to be linked to in-game events (although it's difficult to tell). At one stage I attempted to debug the issue and it looked like it was linked to problems loading localisation resources for the popup window. This may be a red herring. As in the original report I'd get past the 'bad spot' and the problem would go away for a few hours. It always returned, though. I'm commenting on this bug report because I've just installed the latest DF on a new MacBook Air running 10.8.4 and the problem is worse: if I attempt to start a game or go into legends after world-gen I get the blank white popup window.
