Summary | 0001007: Wells become unusable after being used for anything other than drinking |
Description | Although I have a well that reports as active, several levels above a reservoir that is at 7/7 (although the highest level in the aqueduct may be lower), dwarves prefer to go outside to the river to drink and complain about the lack of a well. The water had propagated blood from multiple years past, which might have contaminated the water, but the well does not report a problem with the water supply. |

Isn't this an old issue? I think I've heard of it happening in 40D. May want to check out the wiki or search for threads relating to this.
Oh yea, did you set an activity zone on it and set it to being a water source? I think this is what causes the issue. |

It could be an old issue; I'm not finding anything in the wiki on it, but I'm still searching.
I tried to set an activity zone on the well but IIRC was unable to do so; it didn't register as a water source for zone purposes. I'll double-check when I'm back at that machine. |
|
|
|
You have to put the activity zone on any surrounding floor or ground in order for it to work I believe. |

Hmmm. I can't put a water source zone around it, it doesn't highlight as a water source even though the well shows 'Active', just Pit/Pond and everything that fits on empty ground (I zoned the entire room, not just the well space). If it was dry I could understand not using it for water, but it's active and has unobstructed access:

7/7
Guess this is a bug -- active wells don't count as water sources. I went ahead and selected 'w'ater source anyway, and it highlighted with 0 spaces, so maybe that will magically fix the issue.

I have this same issue. Before I made the water source activity zone, I did notice a dwarf go clean himself by the well. The well is active, but the activity zone (which includes the well and 5 adjacent tiles) shows as having (0) water source squares.
I'll have to check when I get home later, but I think some dwarves are still running all the way out to the brook for water, instead of using the well.
Anyway, even if they are using the well properly, its a bug that the activity zone shows (0) water source squares. |

Unless this is 100% reproducible (i.e., it happens for every single well), it would be helpful to upload a save demonstrating the problem. http://dffd.wimbli.com/ [^] |

I've had wells work but as soon as its used for anything other than drinking the water source was forever contaminated and never used again even though nothing was reported wrong with it or it was contaminated but now its not, I'll try and reproduce this and upload a save. |
