Summary | 0001009: Empty bags are too heavy -- cloth bags weigh 30 kg, silk 10 kg |
Description | I recall Toady saying one game weight unit is meant to represent 1 kg.
When trading, I've noticed bags seem to be too heavy. Cloth bags weight 30 kg, silk bags 10 kg, not sure about leather. I mean empty bags. |

Are you sure its not 3.0 and 1.0 respectively?
The bug could be in omitting the decimal point. |

A bag weighing 3.0kg is still heavy (for a bag). It should display <1kg if it is that light. |

Yea I saw that bug report, even posted there since this may be related.
Maybe its a display bug, but I haven't really gotten into fort mode, kind of waiting for some of the major bugs to be fixed, so I don't really know for sure. |
I doubt it's a display bug -- most likely the bags still just have some garbage value for their item size, possibly left over from the old weight system. |
A really large bag could weigh that much (would have to be a huge silk bag to be 10 kilos, or a parachute), but in reality, bags in DF are probably more like the size of those used for coffee beans or large petfood bags. So an empty cloth bag wouldn't wiegh much more than a pound. |
Haven't Toady put in volume instead of item size? :) |
There's a difference? Anyway, it's called "size" in most places in the raws (weapons for example). |
I meant volume as in "how much fits in" or "the empty space inside the bag" ;) |

Cat skull totem weights 8 kg. There's something strange going on with these weights. |

Reminder sent to: Toady One Another weight problem that may have gotten fixed. |
Yeah, this one is fixed now. One of the save compat things I didn't get a chance to fix coming out of 40d was splitting bags and boxes apart, so it was treating them like big thick silk or cloth chests. |
