Summary | 0001169: Soldiers follow enemies into the water, and then drown |
Description | If a dorf is fighting a critter (undead in my case, I'm sure it applies to living as well) and said critter falls into a lake or a pond, the dorf follows it and eventually drowns in the 7/7 water. The lake had no ramps or any other means of access other than just jumping in.
I haven't tested whether or not they also jump off a cliff or into a lake that's more than 1 z-level deep. |
Steps To Reproduce | 1) Use a wrestler to knock an undead critter into a pond
2) Issue a kill order on said critter
3) Watch as dorfs happily jump to their watery graves |
Additional Information | It already happened twice to me:
1) Single squad of 3 dorfs, two jumped down into the pond and killed the critter, then drowned. The third dorf was elsewhere so he survived.
2) Two squads, 1 wrestler and 3 axedorfs. Wrestler knocked the critter into a pond, jumped in and continued to fight it. Axedorfs arrived, jumped in, killed it, third axedorf arrived late and didn't jump in as there was nothing to kill anymore. Save for the last one all of them drowned. |

My dwarves used to be able to swim back out after a bit of drowning. However, i tested it upon the no_breathe tag, and in about a couple seconds of it, they swam back out. For adventure modes with no_breathe, i had to PUSH them out of the water to keep them from drowning. Alt+Move when someone is in the way when you move makes them move to your previous location and you go in. Assuming enough, there most likely will be an ability for other dwarves to drag them out of the water, to prevent other dwarves from drowning. |

|
Intentional? I mean you told them to kill something in water.
Then again, the dwarves should have common sense not to jump into some water without knowing how to swim. |

Doesn't need to be a kill order. Just activated a squad to deal with a rhesus macqaw swarm, and two (of seven) dwarves drowned pursuing them into the river.
