0001567: Trees don't burn in magma
I embarked on a map with a volcano, and just for fun I dug some holes in the side of it to let the magma spill everywhere and cause havoc. I was surprised to find that most of the trees in the area below seemed to be just fine with this, even after quite some time being surrounded with magma. Shrubs burned fine and grass turned to ash, but there's still a pretty nice forest.
Drain volcano into wooded plain.
May well be related to temperature issues.

this is expected behavior, consistent with 40d.

It is a preexisting issue from 40d, but it certainly is a bug and not the expected behavior of trees.

I thought this was rather unusual too, I had a magma-pipe spilling into a cavern (naturally from embark) and all the trees were just merrily growing in 4/7 magma.

Back in 40d, the trees didn't burn from the wildfires either (started regularly by your friendly neighbouring population of fire imps). Didn't try that yet with the new versions, does it count as the same issue/bug?

Also, it would be nice if the trees that grow up and clog your magma channel would stop doing that and burn instead.

Grass and shrubs not burning either in mine.

EDIT:

They do burn, but wildfires are no longer generated. I miss them.

Same here, when I got a nice fire from devils, they dont tend to burn. Maybe make something like "burned tree"?

I believe this is caused by the tree tile to be impassable to all things (including liquids) and the temperature raise caused by magma in neighboring tiles not being large enough to actually light basic wood on fire. All in all requires an update of the fire mechanics.

Given the Future of the Fortress feedback, this will mostly likely be fixed in the next version:

With the new multi-tile trees, are we going to have proper forest fires now? Can you furnish us with any screenshots?

It's one of the remaining items to address for trees (so, very soon!). Long ago, the trees actually burned, and now as I understand it, they no longer burn. Screenshots may occur during testing. I'm not sure how much the game is going to be able to judge the heat of the flames and so on -- it could be that grass fires only spread up to leaves if the tree has leaves near the ground, and the trunks only burn down in the presence of magma/dragons/etc., or something, but I'm not quite sure how it'll work until I go over the old code and update and fix it.

Given the massive changes to trees, this report is obsolete.

I'd say this is fixed, since most trees do burn in magma now (with the exception of 0008736).
