Summary | 0001932: Ice over water cave-in produces blocks of rock and "Unknown" |
Description | Had a wooden constructed wall built out over some water... the water froze, so I went to remove the wall while I could get at it. The wall came down really quick, and I went about my business. Spring time came, and the river thawed... but the areas that had wall over them still showed up as an ice floor... with water on the river floor beneath them. Floating ice? Maybe... but it wouldn't melt even as spring progressed. I went to channel the floors out, and they caved in, leaving a few blocks of dolomite rubble and two blocks of "Unknown". All blocks appeared as "open space" from above. After refreezing, I can dig into the dolomite. I can't do anything to the "Unknown". |
Steps To Reproduce | Play with ice? |
Additional Information | I have a save for this, it's in 31.04 now; I don't know how to post saves for your viewing pleasure. |

You haven't done any modding, have you? I encountered this back in 40d after attempting to mod out an aquifer using a tool.
You can upload saves using the Dwarf Fortress File Depot, http://dffd.wimbli.com/. [^] It might be helpful if you could also produce a save before the cave in, to show how the "unknown" rock was produced. |

The pre-cavein state shouldn't be hard to recreate. Wooden wall over ice, let it thaw and refreeze, remove wall. When it thaws again, look for ice that remains. |

Nothing significant or related, no.
Now that I think about it, the floating ice is just as strange as what happened to it after I mined it... |

I can confirm this. Some combination of natural and constructed ice stairways in the middle of a frozen ocean collapsed when it thawed (which means one of those types didn't melt properly). One tile became a black square unknown tile just floating there. Sometime after that the game would crash when I looked in the glob section of stocks, but that could be related to "liquid [10]" sorts of bugs that I was also getting. |

|
This is still happening in 31.05, I'll pick up 31.07 now that it's out and try it there. |

This may be an old bug. I've seen this happen even in 40D.
It involved carving ramps into a glacier and constructing things over the ramp. The square ended up turning black, just an empty void. Could never build anything there or do anything with that square ever again. |

I just reproduced this bug, or something like it, in 31.25. In this case, I built a tower on ice during the winter. When summer came, and the ice melted, the tower hovered there until I loaded a save. Then, it came crashing down, and left some muddy unknown where the stairwell was. Construction materials: Stone near the bottom, ice near the top.
Thanks. |
