It's never been possible to pit dwarves, even ones that are hostile.
40d was the same way. |

Dwarf was not berserk. Just hurt. I built the cage, connected a lever and problem was solved. Only would be simpler to pit them.. I could have sworn I pitted dwarves that had been caged in some earlier game to get them out, but maybe I made a mistake then. |

Similar problem with a (human) visitor. When I place the cage and unassign them, my dwarves just come up with another cage and transfer them.
Not sure how they got into the cage, but it probably has something to do with the fact that they tried to leave in the middle of a siege. You can tell they are wounded.
See save file at http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=11480 [^] (you can find him in the unit list, marked as caged)

Did he maybe fall asleep on top of a cage trap? Or get knocked unconscious? Or pass out from exhaustion or pain? You said he was injured...

Well I didn't see him get trapped, but like I said, I believe he ran out when a good 100 goblins were trying to make their way in and got knocked unconscious.
This ticket isn't about that though, this one is about getting friendlies out. I assumed similar mechanics are used internally for visitors and citizens, which is why I added it here instead of making a new ticket. |

Don't build all the cages, just click x while building a cage to choose this one with the dwarf inside. |

A visiting general (who I had previously expelled from my fortress for throwing a tantrum, when they were just a farmer, and had since risen through the ranks) threw a tantrum, so they were imprissoned. And once their term was up instead of being released they were transferred into another cage and stowed away. I've since placed the cage they were put in outside the dungeon and tried to manually let them out but once again they were put into another cage.
