Summary | 0003381: Crash when viewing item name that is too long to display on screen |
Description | As the title says. I get an immediate crash if I look at a specific slain creatures body or blood trail. I'm guessing it must have something to do with the name of the beast.
If I could get some help in the meantime I would greatly appreciate it. Even a hack to change the creatures name if that's the problem? |
Steps To Reproduce | http://dl.dropbox.com/u/877292/region1.zip [^]
Thats the save file.
To reproduce I just need to load the game then find the creature outside the main gate (on the highest level of the fort, out in the open) next to the trade depot on the left. Either look at the blood or the corpse. Insta crash! |

You know, in the past few days I've also had the game crash suddenly on two separate occasions when I was looking around (with 'k') at various squares containing items/body parts/blood. I'm using Ironhand's graphics pack and True Type. I'm going to start saving after siege battles. |

OK, I feel like I've made a discovery here. Because I'd crashed with this bug, I had to replay my siege. Strangely (or not?) this time it came as six ambushes one after the other instead of a siege, but either way there were plenty of blood spatters.
So I saved and found the square that makes DF crash whenever I look at it. There's a spattering of dwarf blood, but I think the problem comes from this: "A spattering of Azstrog Screamevils the Spidery Cave of Confederacy's goblin blood" . On my normal 1/3 text view, the words don't quite fit in the window, but then DF crashes immediately anyway. What I discovered is this:
If, before I look at the square, I hit tab a few times to get the view where the text takes up 2/3 of the screen, I can look at the square without any trouble. The words fit, and DF doesn't crash. If while looking at this square, I hit tab to change the view, DF immediately crashes.
The crash I'm talking about is just a windows popup: Dwarf Fortress.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
I am using Ironhand graphics with the defaults (which seems to be TTF). DF .31.16. |

Reminder sent to: Tweakd I'm looking at this save in 31.18 and am not getting a crash when viewing the creature Egul or the blood spatters. Were you using TrueType? |

Nevermind, I just re-read yeesh's comment that TT is default for Ironhand, making this a dup. |
