Summary | 0003700: Swimming beasts do not path toward targets? |
Description | My fortress's 3rd cavern layer is mostly underwater, and if a forgotten beast arrives and doesn't have any targets*, it starts wandering around, eventually jumping into the water (since all forgotten beasts are amphibious). If I then give the beast a target*, it will continue to mill around randomly within the water until it happens to step back onto land, at which point it will immediately attack.
By comparison, if a target is made available while the beast is on land, it will immediately attack.
* either a direct path into the fortress, or an animal chained within an airlock |

This happens to me all the damn time. The FBs generally (not always) just run into a big ol' underground pool and stay there until I do something about it. Could be an oversight with amphibious creatures and pathing AI. |

I'm getting the same thing. Around one in five FBs in my most recent fortress just end up going into the water, and hovering around the same place until they eventually stop moving all together. 2 of them have wings too, they just sit there in the water, not doing anything at all. |

I can almost see this as intentional, or at least not "broken", if you assume that water affects line-of-sight. Of course, we all know FBs don't care whether they can see the open door to path to it.
If something jumps in the water while the FB is cruising around, does he path to attack it? Maybe the pathing code is assuming land and water are in different areas. |

I moved Kamber's save over to this report, so it is acknowledged now. |
