0004398: Unexplained crash without an error dump
I was happily chugging along in my latest fortress when all of a sudden it crashed very shortly after the arrival of a caravan. I reloaded and tried again; still crashed. Tried changing the tags so that the race sending the caravan wouldn't show up, still crashed. Tried not breaching the second cavern layer, which I had done shortly before the crash, still crashed.

Nothing showed up in the error log after all but one of these, and I think the one that did was unrelated since it was just the same path fail that I get fairly frequently.
Load the bugged save.
Wait. It crashes a few seconds after the arrival of the dyansauri caravan.
I play with a mishmash of parts from Civilization Forge, Direforged and Genesis mods, but nothing was coming up in the error log and it's happening regardless of which race ambushes me right before the caravan, or whether the caravan comes or not.

What raws have you changed since generating the world?

I had some problems with zombie birds causing endless job cancellation spam, so I took off flier (temporarily, I added it back in afterwards) and added cannot_undead.

I changed [INTELLIGENT] on dyansauri to [CAN_LEARN] when I was testing whether that was the source of the crash but I changed it back.

I did experiment earlier with adding a new entity position to an already-genned world- it didn't seem to do anything then, so I didn't bother undoing it (replacing the bugged Dungeon Master with the genesis mod appointable DM.)

(edit: removed old save after uploading a new version)

Edit: Just tried restoring the DM position to its original form. Still crashes.

Making raws changes of that kind (adding new entries etc) can cause unpredictable and delayed crashes. There's a chance Toady could use your save to find a bug, but a vanilla save would be highly preferable.

I generated an identical world, but didn't mess with the tags this time- and it immediately crashed when a dyansauri caravan arrived, around the same time of year as before.

There's still nothing being posted to errorlog.txt and I didn't see anything about a nemesis error. This is a bit frustrating- I really like this site!

I notice in the raws that the dyansauri lay eggs, but don't appear to have a body detail plan that actually adds egg materials. Does the crash still occur if you add
     [BODY_DETAIL_PLAN:LEATHERY_EGG_MATERIALS]
to the raws? Is this missing from the Civ Forge as well? While I can't really imagine that to crash the game, it's the only thing I'm seeing in the dyansauri raws.

I didn't change the creature_dyansauri raws at all so yep, it's missing from the latest Civ Forge as well.

Interesting... Changing [INTELLIGENT] to [CAN_LEARN] didn't prevent the dyansauri from sending a caravan like usual. Instead, they still brought it shortly followed by a frost giant caravan, with no crash.

I have no idea what's going on. Probably broke it again anyway by force-quitting so it wouldn't save with the changed raw.

http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=4125 [^] Here's the save from after regenning the world. I undid the change from [INTELLIGENT] to [CAN_LEARN] as I mentioned; this is a couple minutes (at least on my computer, your FPS may vary) before the caravan arrives and the game crashes.

Since save compatibility has been broken since this report, it's hard to tell whether this crash has since been fixed. If anyone has a save that crashes under similar conditions in the latest version, please upload it to http://dffd.wimbli.com/ [^] and PM a manager on the forums (or reopen the report).
