Summary | 0004684: Bugged area appeared in cavern while playing. |
Description | I was designating tiles to be dug out on Z level -2 when an announcement appeared that the first Cavern had been breached out on Z level -34. The area was filled with water, magma, a pillar and a few other constructions, and several "Unknown" tiles. Several tiles with no description were there also, like it is with unexplored space. Some tiles appeared with designations on them already. Several types of walls were visible down there, including ice and obsidian. Many of the walls and unknown tiles were damp and/or mossy. A shrub and a Magma Flow tile appeared as well. |
Steps To Reproduce | Unknown. Playing through from a save 14 in-game days earlier didn't do it. Possibly a read/write error while I was designating? |
Additional Information | Liquids in the unknown tiles wouldn't move into other unknown tiles in the bugged area, but liquids on the edge of the area would drain outward into normal space if space was made, even if they started on an "unknown" tile.
I suspect that the announcement came about because some water and magma made the obsidian wall I saw down there, similar to how the cave-in at embark errors reveal the map.
Bringing up the designation menu while in the bugged area started with the Cut Down Trees option being highlighted instead of the Dig option.
Phoebus pre-installed pack. |

Since ice is present, this might be related to 0001932. |

It happened again, and it happened while I was designating (ramps instead of stairs this time). The announcement that I got this time was that a designation was cancelled due to damp stone. Unknowns, water, magma, ice, steam, etc. are all present.
The save is from the 11th of Slade. When I saved the game beforehand on the 10th of Slade, it crashed, but the file still loaded. That may have something to do with it this time. If I recall correctly, the first time there wasn't a crash beforehand. It crashed again while saving after the bug, but again it seemed to load fine. Running through from before the bug (but still in the crashed file) didn't reproduce the issue.
Interesting note: While looking through the bugged tiles in this second file I've seen the full gambit of tile attributes:
Inside Dark Subterranean
Inside Dark Above Ground
Inside Light Subterranean
Inside Light Above Ground
Outside Light Subterranean
