I don't think you can directly use anything that's still in a workshop after creation, unless you happen to be a moody dwarf or a hauler whose job is to move the item to a stockpile. I've seen this with furniture, tallow, leather, bones, cloth, and various other created items. Moody dwarves definitely ignore this rule, they will go grab anything, immediately after it's been created if they are looking for it.

I disagree. My experience is that furniture, leather, cloth, bones, and most other things are available from a workshop. I know there are some things that need to be in specific containers, but none come to mind off-hand. I do agree that moody dwarves are exempt.
