Confirmed in Arena mode. I spawned a dwarf and a spear elf. The dwarf died due to a bad case of spear-to-the-head. Her description read that her upper body was gone. |
I went on to confirm this happens to all bodies, not just dwarves. I tested elves, gazelles, ettins, and sharks. All die and claim they're missing their upper body regardless of death. |

Confirmed. Can someone try on something with no upper body (I think some demons are like this)? |
Just tried it with an antperson, who lacks an upper body and instead has a thorax and an abdomen. All deaths list "Its thorax is gone", regardless of cause of death. |

fast and detailed testing as always penguin, Interesting behavior. Any theories on why this one is happening? |

Hmm.. happens over here at 0.31.03 too. |

The upper body (or thorax) is the "root" body part that all others branch off from. I believe this just means "Their entire body is gone." |
then wouldnt it just say "his *all body parts* are gone? |
I can confirm this as well.
Even stranger... if the body in question is missing an ear or somthing it wont say that, just his upper body is gone. |
Could we get an update on this?
Also, when it gets fixed, I'm curious to know as to what was causing this to bug up. |
What kind of update do you want?
As for the probable explanation, see 0000658:0006362. |

v0.44.12: FrogDolphinMan posted procedures in 0011098:
Method 1(Adventure mode):
Die in adventure mode and press z(status) and then d(description),
and in the section which lists your injuries, it will say that your upper body is gone even though no bodypart severing happened in the combat log.
Method 2(Fortress mode):
Find a relative of a dead dwarf in your fort,
press k and view that relative.
Press r and find the dead dwarf from the list and press v.
In the description it says his/her upper body is gone. |
