0000667: Creature gets attached to item, keeps bestowing new names upon it
(Searched but couldn't find a report here, close if already reported)
I've had a cave swallowman in fort mode and multiple bronze colossi in arena get attached to and rename their same weapon every minute or so and get a paused announcement over and over again about a new name. Same item, different name each time.

Mildly irritating.
Two bronze colossi in Arena mode duking it out, give one of them a sword and wait.

I'd like to add that he can rename it while he's sleeping, too. Might not come up in regular play once this is fixed, but just thought I'd add it for completeness' sake.

Also, for a temporary fix from the game locking up every 10 seconds, you can turn the pause and recenter off in the init announcements folder.

This is happening for me in fortress mode: he killed a forgotten beast made of snow with his training sword; now he renames it about every two minutes. I have a screenshot, if need be.

I had and still have the same with two dwarfes while and after they unsuccessfully fought a seemingly immortal forgotten beast (a great spider with wings made out of vomit). One of them has a Spear, the other a Hammer and both rename it at least twice a minute.

An easy workaround for this is to edit the announcements.txt file in data/init/.
Look for the line with the NAMED_ARTIFACT announcement.
I removed the box, center and pause tags, and now all my worries are over ;)

I'm getting this in fortress mode now, from a human caravan guard who's been fighting zombie horses for a few sesasons. Happens pretty steadily.

The two ant women who were constantly renaming their spears in my fortress were friendly... I couldn't even kill them to stop the spam.

If you look at "Legends" mode, each time he renames it generates a new artifact.

flertallsformer's suggestion at least keeps the game moving for me, thanks for that. Definitely a problem because even when the creatures aren't even visible (a cave swallowman fighting a legendary beast went out of view) the game kept snapping to it and pausing.

its just annoying to unpause every other time, not to mention that she should actually use the steel long sword (got the copper on embark) and still killed everything with the copper one :(

Got the same bug with an already named artifact steel mace my macelord used to kill a Hill Titan. Turned of the announcements for now, hoping for a fix

This should be fixed for 0.31.07. It was reartifacting them, so it might have lead to erroneous legends entries or something as well, which'll probably be too much trouble to patch out of saves safely. Hopefully that won't cause unforeseen problems.
