Did this with a structure of floors and walls over a brook (Walls touching leaves)
Reattached the structure with floors, disconnected again, still floated.
Placed new walls on the other side of the strip of floor while removing the walls that touched the leaves, disconnected, still floated.
Removed the floor touching the new walls, walls floated.
Succeeded in causing a surface collapse after this 50-100 tiles away by mining, so fake support hasn't spread that distance.
Removed the floor above or near the brook, and then disconnected part of the remaining floor (Diagonal contact): Collapse.
It appears the brook may have been a factor.

I guess this is similar to the issues with ice: 0001265 |

Still an issue in 0.40.06.
Also works with workshops, which make all Open space tiles below them to be 'inside' after tree collapses. |
Also chopping down trees with webs in them leaves uncollected webs floating in air in my current game(0.40.13 with save migrated from 0.40.12) |

Confirming the floating webs after chopping down trees in 40.19, and the inaccessible webs generate tons of cancellation spam. |
Midair webs are 0000595, a very different issue from floating buildings. |

@Footkerchief: To me it all seems like hanging things are not updated properly sometimes. They are not noted their support is no more. |
