The plumes are actually composed of sand and clay (which is the soil at that level, they are happening in trees - looks like half the tree collapses - I've seen plumes up to 9 z-levels tall. |
|
|
|
They are also rupturing the fortress, and extending in z-levels below ground, injuring dwarfs. Trees are also growing down into the fortress from the ground - that part might be on purpose |

I'm seeing much the same thing here.
To Footkerchief, two of the caveins occurred in a space where I'd never cut any trees down for more than a year game time - that's one heckofa delayed event if it had any correaltion to tree chopping.
Observations:
Caveins for me consist of Peat.
I've only seen 3 thus far. Each time the tree was not 'full grown'.
The two cavein's I've made special note of thus far, involved two trees within 7 urist of each other and at the same y coordinate.
The cavein was centered at a point between the two, but still 2-3 urist south
Speculation is, that one tree growing from a sapling may be interfering with parts of another, already established tree, causing part of it to 'cave in'. |

I have this once or twice a year. The most recent was the only one I've seen that actually made any plumes. Interestingly the plumes, when viewed with k, were made of red sand. I have yet to find any sand on this map. The tree in question was a "sand pear tree". if that has anything to do with it. |

|
It's not after cutting the trees and has nothing to do with tree-cutting. It is happening with increasing frequency, like now once every minute or so. It seems the trees are maybe growing too fast and getting too big and collapsing under their own weight. |

Just had a collapse then went down 6 z-levels into the fortress - the breach happened in two different stockpiles - it erased the stockpile designation when it did so. So now trees are also destroying stockpiles! I love it. |

Related to 7533, save uploaded there. Mine are destroying floors which were built in response to the last collapse at the same location. |

These collapses have caused some of my animals to become (covered in) piles of sand and clay. When I try to channel it, there are no animals inside i.e. a cave-in has happened? |

It does happen for me too.
Always at roughly the same spot every 5-10 minutes.
There were Trees before and i removed roughly 3 Layers of Sand in the Area.
The caveins keep happening even so the whole area is "open space" on all z-levles above |
|
|
|
Mine are also destroying floors what I built in response to collapses - I've been diligent about killing all the trees and building floors but it doesn't really matter - 6-z levels down dwarfs are dying because of trees. The elves must pay. |

I'm getting the same thing, usually in the same general area. Sometimes it's close enough to a tree that logs come down where there weren't any before. Other times there's no tree nearby to explain it (I'm being diligent about felling any 2-Z level tree above my mined-out areas).

This looks a lot like 0007533 to me, so I'm resolving it as a duplicate. Please reopen this or PM me on the forums if you disagree.
To address a couple comments above: From Talvieno's research in 0007533, it seems that this occurs if trees have ever been chopped in an area (not necessarily recently).
