Summary | 0000758: Load out crash |
Description | I'm not sure what's happening, but if I choose a maximum size and 'embark', the game crashes. If I choose more than 4x4, the game crashes on embarking. It'll let me 'prepare for my journey carefully', and then crash when I hit 'embark' with the following message:
'This program has terminated in an abnormal way'
It takes a few minutes for this to happen. When I -don't- prepare carefully, -don't- move the local area around and -don't- maximize it, I can play normally. |
Steps To Reproduce | Change size of local area, prepare carefully. Crashes before finishes loading from embarking, before the 'Strike the Earth!' screen. |

I've gotten this too; it happens when I choose an embark size too large. I can still embark with, say, 8x8, but any larger than about twice that causes this crash.
I suspect it's the program actually running out of memory to hold all the 200 Z-layers of data, really. |

How much RAM do you have and are you playing with Graphics on?
Is it consistent on all maps and with all non-uniform size layouts (IE: 5x4, 6x4, etc) - what size are you embarking on now?
Bear in mind there are now ~ 100 Z-levels per area, and embarking on a 4x4 means that you'll be putting a large strain on your PC.

I suspect this is a duplicate of 0000136, but am waiting on feedback from the reporter. |

I'm a bit of a purist, so I have no mods attached. Checking the init file reveals graphics are off.
I'm running with 3 GB of RAM. Vista 32-bit, service pack 2.
Had a small correction. I can 'prepare for journey carefully', as long as I don't alter the start out size at all. |
