Summary | 0007648: Woodcutting : Using multi layer woodcutting will in many cases cause woodcutters to chop down tree from above |
Description | If you are trying to designate several trees to be cut down by selecting several Z layers and an area , then in some cases the 2nd or 3rd layer trunk of a tree will be selected to be choped down, and as long as its possible to path a way there you will eventually see that a Dwarf will walk there and chop down that part of the tree, resulting in the whole tree's colapse.
So basically :
If a tree is several Z layers and a Dwarf cuts it down at the third (or above) layer then the whole tree will colapse with the dwarves falling as well. |
Steps To Reproduce | 1 : Embark in an area with trees in several Z layers and with a 2nd or 3rd Z layer accesible for the dwarves to the trees upper trunk.
2 : Assign these trees to be woodcutted through multi layer selection.
3 : Watch as the dwarves learns to fly with the trees.
|
Additional Information | Multi layer selection for woodcutting is a very usefull tool when you need to clear an area of Trees , however as it is right now you have to be really carefull to not select trees that comes from a lower level on that Z level you are, to avoid the small dwarves from cutting a tree and falling several Z levels down. |

I noticed I had chosen the wrong Category for this bug, I think it should probably be placed under Jobs (Designations?) or perhaps Pathfinding. |

This may be covered entirely by 0006591, but we'll use that one for entire tree chopping report, and this one as a multi-z-level designation report. |

i confirm that.
I designated to chop a tree in several z-layers, which caused my lumberjack chopping it while sitting on it.
He then fell down and broke his spine. |

Seconding this. Really irritating bug.
Talented dwarves, though, holy carp. Cutting down a tree while sitting on the branches. |
|
|
|
Not sure where I should add this as well, but I noticed that when a Dwarf actually does fall down due to chopping down the tree from above the combat logs looks like this :
A few injury reports first then :
*The woodcutter is caught in a cloud of bursting magma
*The woodcutter is caught in a cloud of Sandy clay loam
They repeat themselves totalling 3x each. |
