Summary | 0007790: Cave in when loading save |
Description | Summary:
I've got a cave in that occurs when I load the save.
The cavein did not occur when I was setting up the feature that caves in. I would not expect simply loading a saved game to trigger the cavein.
|
Steps To Reproduce | Load this save: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=9236 [^]
Press '.' to advance the world one tick.
Cave-in occurs promptly.
The cave in occurs over the cistern which is under the river
Short form:
River Z1
Cistern Z3 and Z4
Winter comes, river freezes, I dig out Z1, channel out a bit into Z2 to help the river flow into the cistern, and then connect it to a waiting tunnel with fortification and grate.
Spring comes, river melts, fills cistern. I save to change a liquid display setting, and the cavein occurs when I load the save. |
Additional Information | The cavein occurrs every time I load the save, but I've not tried replicating it in other scenarios.
Might possibly involve channeling into dirt from ice that later melts, with the dirt itself unsupported from below...but I'm not sure I have the dwarven physics correct.

Reminder sent to: torrenal Was there a previous cave-in at that location? |

If ice is supporting dirt that is later unsupported when the ice melts - that is exactly an expected cave-in situation. |

The only other caveins near there broke through into the cistern and were patched with proper floor tiles. They had been a result of me designating the L2 layer for digging, then later designating L1 for channeling - to try and recover any ice for use in the fortress.
The cavein-on-load is just to the east of those patches and does not involve them. No other caveins occurred during work on the ice.

Ok, it may very well be the same root cause, but I'll leave it as a child of the other report. Thanks for the follow-ups. |

Ah. It's the 'Brook'
'Brook' is essentially a floor that rests on the ice. I channeled out all around the brook, and dug out the ice under it, but the 'brook' rested on the 'ice floor' of the river.
Spring thaw comes. Ice turns to water, no longer supporting the 'brook'.
Save game - load game, brook is checked for cave-in and collapses. I've now recreated this in a pocket world, saved just prior to thaw if you want. |

Yeah, it's intentional for now that brook tiles can collapse like other floors. |
