Summary | 0008528: Dwarves won't talk to lovers |
Description | After dwarves become lovers, they cease to chat with each other in their free time, preventing them from progressing to marriage. (I'm aware that some dwarves' orientation mean they won't commit, but these dwarves don't even talk once they become lovers.) They still chat with normal friends. Several other people have also experienced the issue.
|
Steps To Reproduce | Generate new world. Embark. Wait for some of the dwarves to become lovers - they'll talk to each other after that for a while, less than a season. Then all the pairs abruptly stop talking to each other (will still talk to friends). If you lock the couples up together they'll just idle and not interact. This prevents trying to self-populate a fort. |

I can definitely confirm that dwarves can talk to their lovers in DF 0.40.23
Specifically, I have two pairs of dwarves in lover relationships. They have been so for eleven game years.
Pair 1
"Within the last season he felt lustful talking with a lover." "Within the last season she felt tenderness talking with a lover." (lol, that relationship is doomed).
Pair 2
No talk memories in thoughts. "She is romantically involved with Moldath Axeseige" "He is romantically involved with Dodok Ceilingguild"
I've been keeping them pretty busy. Both have failed to commit to marriage. And there are no babies.
Anyway, it looks like "Unable to reproduce" to me. |

The bug or the dwarves? :D |

@Rafal99 Lol, both.
Seriously, though, as I understand it dwarves that are 'lovers' don't have babies (or shouldn't: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=140163.msg5933127#msg5933127 [^]) and there is a chance that your dwarves happen to not be open to the commitment of marriage.
If that is broken in any way, it probably has nothing to do with dwarves not talking to lovers - because it seems that they can. |

I've been doing 'science'
http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=147448.0 [^]
and I have successfully got a pair of embark dwarves to fall in love and marry (DF 0.40.23). It only took 6 game years (lol). I didn't do anything special, except make my dwarves take Winter off from common tasks to leave more time for socializing.
I think this could possibly be closed.
It may be hard to get dwarves married, but it isn't impossible. Requesting dwarves get married more easily sounds like a suggestion to me. |

v0.43.05x32: Two lover pairs were still talking to each other when idling together up to a year later. Strategies for arranging marriages have advanced considerably since 2014, and many dwarves have been successfully wed. |
