0000903: Items on corpses of slain invaders remain {forbidden} despite o-F-t
Other forbid/claim settings seem to be working, but items on the bodies of invaders (or dropped by them) remain forbidden. Items brought by slain friendlies behave properly.

try using (d) (b) (c) to area claim them. They should show up bright green if they're forbidden.

Have you been changing the forbid/claim settings under orders?

If they're killed with forbid on it won't magically claim anything when you turn it back off. You need to do that yourself.

If these tips explain/resolve your issue this matter can probably be closed.

I've been claiming them individually (with loo(k)), and they ARE {forbidden}. Changing the Forbid options under Orders is one of the first things I do when starting a game. Two settings on the Forbid menu are changed, used ammunition and other death items. Used ammo IS being claimed properly, as are death items from non-hostile corpses. It's just the hostile death items that are remaining forbidden. I do know that the setting must be applied before the death occurs, but thanks for being thorough.

I want to add that in my fortresses, the used bolts of merchants are also forbidden, even though I have all forbid options set to claim.

Just to confirm that this bug is still present in 0.31.12

This is happening to me as well. Even with the Forbid options set to claim as soon as a siege or ambush enters the map all of the gear they are wearing is set to Forbidden. It's not particularly difficult to claim them using the d-b-c thing, but it can be annoying if you lose track of one of the invaders and your military dwarf kills it away from everyone else.

Remember, Roses, that these things happen on death/shootingof bolts. So if the goblins/kobolds/whatever are still alive, their equipment will be forbidden to you. Also, if the merchants' guards already shot something, those bolts will have to be reclaimed (use the stocks menu, it is quicker).

But, when hostiles die the game should respect your wishes of having it forbidden or not. I've certainly seen lots of deaths, and the game has yet to not respect the preferences (sometimes it leads to FUN).

Just a quick update. This bug (apparently unchanged) is still noticeable in 34-02.

So, guessing the obvious, oFt setting just stops the items from becoming forbidden when the creatures die - but since they're forbidden already when the creatures spawn, then they need to be un-forbidden at death if oFt is set to claim.

I always set my claim options in zero-time before I even start designing the fortress. SO, unless they're pre-spawned somehow, the option is definitely being set before they invade. However, it's not completely impossible with the recent improvements that the invaders DO exist before the fortress starts, though I have no easy way of verifying that.

If you check the inventory of an invader, merchant, or such, all the items are forbidden. I think this was a fix to a bug where haulers would strip guests of their clothes as soon as they showed up.

Still happens in 0.34.11. (I did not experience this bug back in 0.31.15)

This issue remains in 42.05, although it's not completely consistent. Usually it affects everything the invader is wearing, and SOMETIMES it only affects their shirt and loincloth. Which, I suppose, isn't entirely a bad thing if you really don't WANT to see naked Goblin bodies.
