I seem to recall in the forum thread that the reverse is also true. Metal smithing with gold bars produces iron objects. |

creating steel goblets produces iron goblets, as well. |

Smithing Platinum goblets also produces iron goblets, as well. |

Obviously our dwarves have invented true alchemy!
What's lead turn into? |

Alchemy is under Other, I think. |

Similar: just asked for silver goblets, received iron. |
Just tried this for myself, Iron Bars -> Iron Goblets, Iron Flasks, and all other crafts. |
Creating platinum goblets makes iron goblets :( |
Possibly related is that if you look at the (z)status screen's stone allocations, a lot of the ores (gold, silver and platinum nuggets included) seem to have a "make sharp blades" property attached to them in addition to smelting foo bars and such. It wasn't like this in the old versions of DF. |

"make rock sword" can now use a variety of materials as well as obsidian, many of them are native metal ores |
I don't know if its related, but I tried forging gold goblets and got sandstone mugs instead; trying to make fine pewter flasks produced siltstone flasks. |
I have the most expensive alchemy yet.
Adamantine Wafers -> Iron Goblets. (After attempting to make platinum goblets failed miserably, I thought I'd try a different material - and I'd just found the adamantine.)
Oddly, platinum produces platinum crafts just fine, the issue seems to be with goblets. |

Could this be related to 0000112 or vice versa? Just by the fact that reaction material products seem to be rather buggered for some specific craft reactions, and what seems to be happening there is all the material options being listed with identical titles. Something like that going on with goblets might help to explain the seemingly semirandom behaviour of that.

Yes, same bug. Copper bars > gold goblets. |

I attempted to make Platinum flasks. These turned into gold flasks. |

Heck of alot of alchemy going on here..... |

With 0.31.02, I've tasked the creation of gold, silver, and tin goblets, and always got what I asked for. I'm running DF under Wine on Linux, in case that makes a difference. |

I would like to make a note on "make sharp blades".
They can be made from wood now. |

31.03 still makes iron flasks from nickel bars here |

I've tried gold, platinum, electrum, silver and always get iron goblets(31.03). Flasks also have this problem but as mentioned above crafts are ok.

yep just ordered gold goblets got iron instead.
also, ordered leather flasks and got material-less flasks. no description of what it's made of, just says flask. |
Yep, attempting to make zinc and lead goblets gives me iron goblets. This is 31.03 |

Used my only trifle pewter bar to make some goblets for a demand, got 3 iron goblets in return. Shazbot. Running Mayday's version of 31.03 with no other mods installed. |

5 metal bar types I have tried resulted in gold goblets. Multiple tries with copper result in the same every time. (Nickel Silver, Lead, Electrum, Copper, and Tin all tried, same result.) |

I tried forging silver, lead, copper, brass, zinc, and billon into goblets with charcoal (coke was forbidden) and produced all gold goblets. Then I forbade charcoal and used coke for another set of the same six metals in the same game at the same forge, and produced all iron goblets.
I have not tried this with magma. Can someone verify these results? |
Making Steel Flasks produced Iron Flasks for me. |

Any chance this is also related to artifacts made of bone turning into iron? |
Looks like it's a problem with non-magma forges. With 0.31.06 (native Linux) I had both a magma forge and a regular forge (fueled with coke) in the same game. I ordered gold goblets at each: the magma forge made gold goblets, the regular forge made iron goblets. |

Electrum goblets turned out to be iron. Too bad, because it is a mandate. :( I was using a coke forge. 31.08 SDL. |
v0.31.10, no modifications - I have attempted forging goblets out of the following materials, and each resulted in iron: Silver, Platinum, Lead, Nickel, Zinc, Brass, Bronze, Rose Gold, and Iron |

You know, since the shell/bone artifacts turning into iron bug ( 0000359 ) is fixed in .11, maybe Toady could check whether this one is fixed. Thats if whatever was causing the bug with the artifacts is the same as the one here. |
This should be fixed for 0.31.11. It wasn't the same cause as the artifact/shell bugs, but I found it and cleaned it up. It wasn't clearing the fuel properly, and that randomized the material depending on what mods/OS you are on. |
