Summary | 0000933: Elven traders leave in confusion, leave all their junk to me |
Description | So in my latest fort I got an Elven caravan, traded with them at the depot, everything went fine so far. After sitting in the depot for a while, the Elven traders decide to leave, so I get the message "Traders have embarked to Hippietown," and directly after that "Traders need a depot to trade".
They left the map alright but they dropped all of their remaining trading goods in the depot before. I'm not complaining, since I got a lot of valuable trade goods for free, but it's still kind of an embarassment for my dwarfhood to be caught trading nothing but (*saguaro puzzle box*) and (+mango wood splint+) back to the mountainhomes. |
Steps To Reproduce | As I'm unsure what triggered this behavior in the first place, I wouldn't know how to reproduce. I will post back here if it happens again next year - provided my fort still exists by then. |

Do you have multiple depots? |
No, it was just the one. Also, it didn't happen again with a fresh start from a backup savegame. All very puzzling. |
I've seen this happen in 40d when I accidentally forbid the stone blocks that were used to build the depot (this can happen if you use d->b->f and include the depot in the selected area, or use "t" to look at the depot and forbid the blocks manually). |
Or if you use the stocks screen, where you can forbid buildings without realizing it.
Also, the goods aren't free. Caravans check their profit/loss when they leave the map and there are (usually) consequences. |

Hm. I'm positive that I didn't area-forbid, or "t" forbid the depot, and I'm pretty sure (albeit not entirely) that I didn't forbid any stone from the stocks screen. Since the "Traders need a depot" message was immediately preceded by the "Traders are leaving" one, I think it maybe relates to the leaving process not happening properly. In any case, even if there are to be repercussions from the Elves, it's still a fairly minor bug compared to the other ones, if only because it seems to be infrequent. I was just reporting for the sake of completeness. |

Could the traders have gotten attacked, like in 0002090? |
For the time being, we can chalk this up to the fixed bug with elves bringing too many items. If this problem is still around, feel free to reopen this issue or PM me on the forums. |
