Summary | 0009598: Wagon fails to place on embark & decontructs; placement in tree, volcano edge, etc. |
Description | 1. There was no wagon upon embark. Dwarves, animals and items were balanced precariously on a 1-tile-wide walkway at the edge of the volcano. There is ample flat ground for a wagon.
2. Biome was described as a "heavily forested" taiga, however there isn't a single tree or sapling growing. |
Steps To Reproduce | 1. Embark again at the same 3x3 spot. Restarting DF (without saving) and embarking again reproduced the issue it for me. I am not sure if reclaiming would have the same effect though.
2. Embark anywhere in that taiga biome. |

Reminder sent to: Spinning Fly Do you still happen to have a save for this? Or an embark profile, seeds, etc.? |
I'd like to add an additional, probably related symptom to my save at 0010378: my first migrant wave arrived, and when they did, they appeared in the same tree as my embark. |
More notes: kobold thieves always seem to appear in the same tree (the sentry turkey always notices them immediately), and wagons seem to be bypassing my site, even with proper depot access. I haven't tried chopping down the tree yet, but I'll probably do that next spring before the elves show up to see what happens. |
So right before the beginning of 253, I chopped down my embark tree, and... since then I've had no visitors. No elves. No dwarves. Not even any kobolds. I'm beginning to think this might be more serious than just a weird embark. |

@AntiBlueQuirk:
It sounds like the game thinks those tree tiles are the only navigable edge tiles on your map. You can try building a bridge to the edge of the map where the tree used to be and see if your visitors start arriving again. |
Yeah, that was the plan, though I'm certainly taking advantage of the situation right now while I get my defenses in order. What's weird is that I don't see any reason why the map would be doing this. There's plenty of access on three edges of the site, and my depot clearly shows that it is accessible, so I have no idea why groups wouldn't be able to reach my site on the world map. I've also been having weird fps dips for nearly the entire life of the fortress, and I'm curious if that's related. |

@Dwarfu:
Sorry for the late reply, the reminder ended up in my spam for some reason. The save (for 42.06) is at http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=11815 [^]
The bug can be reproduced by abandoning and reclaiming the fort Idkobel. |
