Summary0000997: Miner decides to be stuck, problem with stairs
DescriptionDig a channel straight down a few z levels so that the miner is stuck. Once the miner is down there, dig up stairs one tile to the side. Then designate down stairs to be dug above that. Although the miner should be able to dig the stairs, he will "cancel: no path available" and undesignate the stairs.

but i think its kindof its own problem. The miner wants doesn't want to dig upwards, he wants to stand on the side of the stairs and dig them. Since he can't, he cancels with a pathfinding error.

The symptoms of this problem are very similar to the "thirsty miner in a hole" bug, but it is NOT the same problem.
Steps To Reproduceview from the side:

If that doesn't work, use stairs and "remove upstairs/ramp" the bottom level after its dug but before designating the new stairs on the side.
