Summary | 0001017: Dwarves leave food in their rooms
Description | For some reason, if I assign rooms to the dwarfs, even ones without tables, chairs or whatever, they bring food there. Maybe due to lack of chairs/tables, maybe for some other reason, but they often don't eat it and just leave it lying around, rotting, causing miasma and unhappy thoughts for them.
Steps To Reproduce | Assign rooms to dwarves, wait and observe.

Do you have a food stockpile designated in your fortress? It's possible your dwarves get food for whatever reason and have nowhere to take the leftovers once they're done eating. Also, could you try setting up a dining hall and see if this persists? |

I have at least three dining rooms (plus barracks) and my food stockpiles always have some free space. Also, in earlier versions I never saw a dwarf take any food product and not finish eating it up (unless they are distracted by flood/animal/invader/whatever). I think, the food products are set as owned by given dwarfs, and this prevents other dwarfs from carrying them back to stockpiles. It seems to me, that if some object is in some dwarfs possession, there's no way to liberate it unless the owner is dead. Some mechanism of liberating items, be it food or worn clothes, might do the trick here. |

Duplicating this to 0003471 as that one covers this report "they would occasionally store their food in their quarters". See also 0002486. |
