Summary | 0002852: A long dead goblin becomes militia commander; entire squad empty afterwards | |||||
Description | A military squad in my most recent fortress became empty (equipment was still there) without my influence and I could not let the dwarfes rejoin at first. To fix this problem, I had to temporarily let them join a different squad first. A (dwarven-)year later an engraving and some research in the Legends made me realize, that a goblin for some reason replaced my dwarf as militia commander (of course AFAIR, the goblin was not shown on the noble screen...the position was just empty, as was the squad). The funniest thing? The goblin wasn´t even one of my prisoners (that would´ve been kinda cool...) or someone who was alive for that matter. The goblin in question was dead since more than 300 years! And he was also a total wuss... As I said, it didn´t cause major problems, but it does not seem intended and maybe the bug can cause more serious problem under different circumstances. Aside from the engraving, was there any evidence in Fortress Mode that the goblin was the militia commander? Does your errorlog contain anything about invalid ID numbers? |

I couldn´t find anything related in the errorlog (only invalid goals, same squares and unrecognized tokens) and all I could find in the Fortress are more engravings of his appointment and the removal of the previous commander. |

Hmm... you should probably upload your save for this one. http://dffd.wimbli.com/ [^] Also, what happens if you appoint a new militia commander? Does the goblin's Legends page then say that he ceased to be the militia commander? |

Now that you say it, there is no announcement of him being removed, neither in the fortresses legend nor in his. The screenshots I posted were all taken roughly one ingame-year after the incident happened (and I already fixed the problem at that point, without even realizing the cause). I uploaded the save here: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=2831 [^] |

I see the entries of the goblin's appointment in his legends several hundred years after he was murdered. You say you "already fixed the problem"...how? It does not appear your fortress was generated in 31.12 even though that is your current version as your raws are dated earlier than they should be. Did you install a mod or do some editing yourself? |

Dwarfu: if you export worldgen info, it should indicate the version that was used to generate the world. |

I only fixed the problem with my empty squad, by temporarily assigning the dwarfes to another squad and reassigning them to the old squad afterwards (they would not appear in the list otherwise. Yes, the world was generated in an older version (31.02 to be precise), because I stopped playing it when an unkillable vomit-megabeast appeared and continued later when it was fixed. The "goblin appointment"-bug happened in 31.12 though and I doubt that the problem lies in the version-change. |

Please reopen this report or PM me on the forums if this bug can be reproduced in 0.34.01. |
