Summary | 0003121: Goblin invaders spawn inside fortress
Description | goblins (and trolls) spawn during sieges (not every single siege but about 4 of 6) inside my fortress. they spawned always near the animal stockpile, or the prisoner cage, the ambush squad spawned~ 25 tiles away from it) on the same z-level. the last spawn that made me report it was on the now ground level animal stockpile beside me barracks (yeah im paranoid) :). it was the 7th squad of a 7-8 squad siege. no, they couldnt have sneaked past my defenses, just appeared out of nowhere near the pile. i didnt mod something strange, beside replacing the PET:EXOTIC tag with PET. the world was generated with that tags replaced in all object txt files. 3 biome 4*4 embark. nothing strange or unusual beside a tamed(myself) hydra^^.
Steps To Reproduce | replace the pet:exotic tags with pet??? thats the only thing i did. i simply have no clue how i triggered it.
Additional Information | will add infos if i can reproduce it an a new fort, or another pile

i forgot to mention explicitly: one squad of a multi squad siege 6+ spawned inside. one squad of a multi squad ambush 4?+ spawned inside |

How close is their spawn location to the edge of the map? |
(0012280) Cryten (reporter) 2010-08-31 06:38 |
Yeah as Logical2u is hinting at an old bug in the game was that if you build to close to the edge underground creature and enemy spawns can occur at those points. It why I religiously wont build within 10 squares of an edge. |

hm... i had only one hallway to the southern edge (needed coal) but it happened before and after i digged it out. spawn location is random now, after some reloads of my fort it only depends on the number of squads spawning with the siege (or ambush), and my luck of not having them appear in my civil areas. as i digged out a small part for a waterfall (~ about 30-40 tiles away from the edge. a squad spawned there with the siege that came a month after the dugout. my central stairways ar almost in the middle of the map(southwestern center), and all my halls are around it. so i didnt carve around the edge. on the most recent siege 1 squad spawned , as mentioned, in my new waterfall cavern(top-level), and 1 squad outside, ground level, about the same vertical axis as my waterfall cavern). |

but one thing, my entrance is "near" the western edge about 40-50 tiles away, the walls of my defense are about 15-20 tiles away from the edge (gobbos spawned there at the edge). |

after reloading and reviewing my fortress again, i came to the conclussion that i indeed dug out some tiles near the edges, a ~ 20*50 tile wide zone for some coal and iron ore at the northern edge, and i extended the pools at the southern edge(they range within 10 to 30 tiles away , i left a space of at least 6 and 4 tiles to the edge(only 2 of six are very near)). all of which are not connected to my fort whatsoever, and are all passable by constructed floor tiles. |

the southern edge of my map may be a bit unspawnable for goblins maybe thats the problem its a cliffy map, and the only broad spawn area is near the pools (enough space whatsoever) |

It would help if you could upload a save so that we can review your fortress. Ideally, it would show an enemy group that you feel spawned inside. http://dffd.wimbli.com/ [^] |

I'm not sure if this is the same thing or not. I had a goblin ambush stumble upon my traps. Basically the corridor is Fortress/traps/5-10 tile hallway/bridge. When the trap was sprung I raised the bridge, therefore sealing off anything from coming in. After 2-3 game days, another goblin ambush was triggered by the same traps. Now, were the second ambushers loitering in the 5-10 tiles before the bridge was raised? Maybe... |

I suspect that they spawned at your area near the edge and (since some dudes spawn stealthed) where noticed once they where seen. Still if you can varify that they are indeed spawning 30-40 tiles away from an edge this could be something different. |

hey there, my computers gfx card went out of order and i couldnt upload it before. so here are my 2 saves: save 1 (17th timber) one day before the next spawn of goblins http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=3062 [^] save 2 (18th timber) spawn day! one messy squad is down by the workshops (hit F2) http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=3061 [^] edit: want to edit some infos(also some on wimbli): phoebus gfx kit 31.12, 97 dwarves, 27fps, 20(max) gfps, name of the fortress is rithkokeb in region4. hope you guys take a look at it in the not so distant future and maybe tell me that these spawns arent all my fault :). |

hey there just an update from myself, im still playing this fortress, and its still the same thing with the spawns. some lucky years passed with no messy spawns, then one day i had 3 squads of goblin spear- and swordsmen right in that spot spawned, where "save2" points to. it was an 8-9 squads siege. edit typo |

This has been happening in my fort. Until now, it was child-snatchers. I thought it was wierd that they had been able to sneak past my guard animals, cage traps, and down 10 z-levels of the busy main (only) stairwell. Now a squad of goblin archers have spawned in my residences - fortunately, I'm still using the hospital as dormitory for most of my dwarves. They always have appeared on either level -8 or -11, but most of the surrounding levels are either empty or haven't been dug out yet. The area they spawn at is not close to any map edge, and I haven't discovered any of the cavern layers yet. I am using Phoebus' mod (34.07 v00 Save: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=6182 [^] |
