Summary | 0003083: Invader dies in cage, items disappear?
Description | Goblin dies in a cage, what happens to the items he was carrying? Just something I noticed, during invasions. Every once in a while a goblin or troll will die of his wounds while caged. His corpse is in the cage but cage gets bounced to empty cage stockpile. You can dump the corpse from the cage, but no sign of his equipment/no extra hauling jobs. Granted I've been stripping captives fairly aggressively, but my haulers are backlogged most of the time. so I know I'm not getting every single piece of equipment. Also I haven't been paying that much attention to the stocks screen that I can prove it, but it seems like the items disappear.
Steps To Reproduce | Wound invader before he gets caught in cage, try weapon traps then cage traps. Wait till invader dies, then see if you can find the items...

In 40d, dropping a cage into magma would cause the creature's equipment to be deposited on top of the cage trap they originally got caught in. Since this tends to be a case of "dying in a cage", it's possible the same thing happens in this case. |

That could be it, there's so much crap lying around the trap field after each siege that it could slip in there, I was just expecting it to be around the cage itself. |

Possible underlying cause of 0002539. |

Let me take a guess. Basically a position tag that either isn't being updated to current location, corpse stays in cage, items drop to last known location. And for 2539, if cage is destroyed, corpse drops to last known location as well, with all equipment it was holding at the time of capture. |

I've seen this as well. I had a caravan get ambushed on their way to my fort. One pack horse fell unconscious and was trapped in my cage trap where he/she later died. I wondered the same thing - where did all the crap go that the horse was hauling? It disappeared! However, after a save/load, all the junk magically reappeared on the tile where the cage trap was. Like knofbath thought. |
