 I had this exact same error on my MacBook Air and on my Hackintosh, both running 10.8, on DP3 and DP4.
I started playing it on Lion for a while, using DwarfBuilder. A few minutes ago, I accidentally ran DF from within 10.8 (Spotlight found it on my Lion partition), and up popped that message that says you need to download and install XQuartz. After I installed XQuartz (which I thought I already had installed), DF works fine ;) I have to confirm this on my MacBook Air, but I guess it will work fine there, too.
Most probably, this is the same issue as the freetype one, only that there was no mention of any problem finding libfreetype in the crash report.

 Same thing here. I don't understand why this is happens, and the XQuartz is installed :-(

Edit: Actually, Crazor's information sounds more relevant, although it doesn't explain why the next guy's version is crashing.

For complicated reasons — I forget why — Toady One has been shipping the Mac version of DF with a custom version of libstdc++ in the "./libs" folder.

It's quite possible that it might no longer be compatible with 10.8, as 10.8 is a breaking release in other ways.

 I was experiencing the same problem as nshelekhov, on a release copy of 10.8.3, with an MBP.

I found that I could work around the crash by turning the sound off, which is quite a big hint to the nature of the problem.
